Educating for Peace and Working Towards for Justness

Justness refers to the quality or state of being just, equitable, or right. It also encompasses the conformity to fact or rule, correctness, or exactness. In essence, justness embodies fairness, impartiality, and adherence to what is right and proper as we strive to serve our members, on-board like minded partners, and support consultants, contractors, and vendors.

Statement of Purpose AMI/USA

Advisory Council AMI/USA Human Rights and Social Justice

The AMI/USA Human Rights and Social Justice(HRSJ) Advisory Council is a dedicated group of Montessorians that hold diverse identities, skills, experiences, and professional roles. As volunteers they form workgroups that are committed to advancing the principles and practices of HRSJ work within all Montessori spaces. The council is very intentional in the effort to lift all voices within the greater Montessori movement and to ensure underheard perspectives are amplified and empowered.

The council serves as a resource for AMI/USA by providing informed insights and actionable recommendations to the Board of Directors and via the HRSJ Advisor, and the AMI/USA operational staff.  The primary goal of the council is to find significant ways to support our members and partners as they strive to uphold and embed the values of justice, equity, diversity, and belonging within the very broad Montessori ecosystem.

The Advisory Council member work includes:

  • Continuously participating in work and training that enhances personal spiritual preparation to fully interrogate one's biases and “isms” and build individual capacity to be a courageous AMI/USA HRSJ advocate.

  • Upholding AMI USA's Core Philosophy

  • Supporting the AMI/USA operational staff to achieve HRSJ related goals as outlined in  the current AMI/USA Strategic Plan

  • Supporting AMI/USA’s membership by engaging in work that guides implementation of high fidelity professional development opportunities that enforce strong senses of justice, equity, diversity, belonging (JED&B), and culturally relevant pedagogy in all Montessori spaces.

  • Revising and articulating new position statements that address current and relevant HRSJ/JED&B challenges and opportunities.

  • Assisting the AMI/USA HRSJ Advisor in addressing emerging priorities, areas of focus, and expressed needs articulated by the AMI/USA membership.

Through professional collaboration, review of evidence-based practices, current research, and much engaging work, the Advisory Council members focus on issues that are of vital importance to our members. We address issues that are within the purview and capacity of AMI/USA, advance equity, diversity, and belonging within the Montessori movement, and yield measurable outcomes that align with the current organizational strategic plan. Advisory Council members commit to preparing, engaging, and contributing to discussions and actions that may be uncomfortable, but necessary, for personal growth and very obvious organizational progress.

AMI/USA members can complete and forward  a HRSJ Advisory Council Interest Submission Form to hrsjsheri@amiusa.org at any time. Submissions are reviewed and face-to-face discussions with the HRSJ Board Committee are conducted in the spring.  New HRSJ Advisory  Council members are on-boarded prior to the beginning of the new fiscal year that starts

August 1st of each year.
