AMI/USA
Continuing Professional Development Requirement
FAQs
How many hours are required?
Each classroom teacher will need to complete 12 hours of professional development each year for the school to remain in compliance. At least 6 of these hours must be obtained from professional development offered by AMI, AMI/USA, AMI-EAA, or other AMI affiliates. State-mandated hours will count towards total hours required.
How can these hours be obtained?
AMI/USA will offer free webinars and a paid series in addition to our annual conference for continuing professional development in the upcoming school year. For Professional Development events, check out AMI/USA Events, Training Center Calendar, and Affiliate and Partner Calendar.
What does noncompliance mean for a school’s recognition status?
If a school cannot provide documentation of compliance with the professional development requirement for teachers, the recognition status may be noted as Associated for the specific program until the requirement is fulfilled and documented.
Is there a grace period for compliance?
Yes, there is a 1-year grace period for schools to have this requirement in place for the 2027-28 school year. Summer 2026 professional development hours prior to August 1 can count toward the 2026-27 school year requirement.
