Standards for AMI Montessori Classrooms

AMI pedagogical standards maintain the level of excellence that Maria Montessori envisioned.

Established by the AMI Scientific Pedagogy Group, the standards ensure that each school offers programs for their children that allow for their full intellectual, social, physical, and psychological growth.

AMI Standards for Ages 0-12

Note for New Classrooms: New classroom communities that have not yet achieved the standards of a complete set of Montessori materials and an appropriate number of children may be eligible for the AMI Recognition Program.

AMI Standards for Ages 12-18

Note for ages 12-18: Although adolescent communities serving 15-18-year-olds will be observed, and individual teachers will be interviewed and offered feedback in Teacher Reports, recognition status is not based on this level because specific standards for the 15-18 level have not yet been established. General Montessori principles, do, however, apply to all levels and can be commented on.
